Child project 2.1 Mediterranean Coastal Zones: Water Security, Climate Resilience and Habitat Protection

The project comprises two components focused on sustainability and increased resilience: one on the coastal zones and the other on coastal aquifers. PAP/RAC leads the coastal zone management component with the support from Plan Bleu/RAC and GWP-Med.

The objective is to assist project countries in achieving expanded compliance with the Protocol on Integrated Coastal Zone Management (ICZM), adopting national ICZM Strategies, coastal plans, and instruments, and enhancing gender equality. The project has an overall GEF grant of USD 7,000,000, of which 1,800,000 are allocated to PAP/RAC activities.

The project is implemented in the following countries: Albania, Algeria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Lebanon, Libya, Montenegro, Morocco and Tunisia.

The implementing agency is UNEP, the executing agency is UNEP/MAP, and the executing partners are UNESCO-IHP, PAP/RAC, Plan Bleu and GWP-Med. 

Child Project 2.1 has two components, with the following objectives and executing partners:

Component 1: Strengthening and expanding ICZM in the Mediterranean region

Executing partners: PAP/RAC, Blue Plan, GWP-Med

Component 2: Sustainable management of coastal aquifers and groundwater-related ecosystems

Executing partner: UNESCO-IHP
